Toyotarou Reveals ‘Super Genius’ to Rival Bulma!
Although the Dragon Ball Super manga is currently on a break, series artist Toyotarou is still keeping fans excited with fresh artwork. For the July 2025 edition of his monthly feature, “Toyotarou Drew This!”, the artist turned his attention to one of the smartest minds in the Dragon Ball universe—Dr. Brief, Bulma’s father.
The official Dragon Ball website shared Toyotarou’s brand-new drawing, which gives a rare, serious look at the usually goofy scientist. Dr. Brief is shown focused and hard at work, with a cigarette hanging from his mouth as he tinkers with his most famous invention: the Hoi-Poi Capsule. The attention to detail in the illustration, especially in Dr. Brief’s aged hands, gives the character a realistic and respectful touch.
So, who is Dr. Brief? He’s the founder and president of Capsule Corporation—one of the most important companies in the Dragon Ball world. He’s also the brilliant mind behind the Hoi-Poi Capsules, those small but powerful items that can store anything from cars to houses in a pocket-sized container. According to the website, he’s even described as the “super genius” who raised Bulma, another top-tier scientist in the series.
This isn’t the first time Toyotarou has used his art to spotlight fan-favorite characters. Even while the manga is paused, he’s been busy drawing characters from across the Dragon Ball universe. He recently released special illustrations featuring Shallot and Giblet from Dragon Ball Legends, and even created a new version of Goku and Gohan using their Ultra Instinct and Beast forms.
Toyotarou is also working on a one-shot Dragon Ball story for V-Jump magazine. While the full version hasn’t been released yet, fans can check out the rough draft online.
Though there won’t be any new Dragon Ball Super manga chapters in 2025, the franchise is far from quiet. With Dragon Ball Daima on the way and classic series like Dragon Ball Super available on Crunchyroll and Hulu, fans still have plenty to enjoy.
This latest artwork of Dr. Brief reminds us that Dragon Ball isn’t just about battles—it’s also about the brilliant minds behind the tech that shapes the world.
