The Detective is Already Dead Manga Ends
In the latest news from the manga world, the December issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Alive magazine marked the conclusion of Mugiko's manga adaptation of Nigojū and Umibōzu's light novel series, "The Detective Is Already Dead" (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru). The manga, which kicked off in May 2020, wrapped up its final chapter in the magazine's December release.
Back in October 2021, the magazine had hinted that the manga would reach its climax in November of the same year. Following this, an epilogue for the ongoing arc was published in December 2021, and the manga announced a short hiatus. March 2022 saw the return of the manga, starting its adaptation of the original novels' third volume.
For English readers, Yen Press is on the case, publishing the original novels and providing a sneak peek into the storyline. The protagonist, Kimihiko Kimizuka, has a knack for stumbling into trouble. His life has been a series of encounters with murder scenes and mysterious attache cases.
His world took a thrilling turn when he crossed paths with Siesta, a brilliant detective engaged in a secret war against a group of pseudohumans. Unable to resist, Kimihiko became her assistant, embarking on an epic journey across the globe. But that was until a year ago. Now, he's back to a mundane and ordinary life, aware that the adventure must be over because the detective is already dead.
Mugiko's manga journey began in Monthly Comic Alive in May 2020, and the sixth compiled volume was released on October 23. Meanwhile, Nigojū introduced the light novel series in November 2019 under Kadokawa's MF Bunko J imprint, featuring illustrations by Umibōzu. The novel bagged the 15th MF Bunko J newcomer award in 2019, with the 10th volume hitting the shelves on October 25.
The success of the novels even led to a television anime premiering in July 2021. Funimation took charge of streaming the anime as it aired, providing both the original and an English dub for global audiences. As the manga wraps up, fans can reminisce about the exciting journey of Kimihiko and Siesta through the pages and screens that brought their adventures to life.
