Nintendo revealed on Wednesday that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a Nintendo Switch game, achieved extraordinary success. This remarkable feat establishes it as the fastest-selling game in the entire history of The Legend of Zelda series. The game enjoyed immense popularity in Japan, where it sold 2.24 million units, and in the Americas, it reached a staggering four million units. Notably, Nintendo highlights that Tears of the Kingdom has become the fastest-selling game on the Switch platform and the entire Nintendo game library in the region.
The Legend of Zelda™: Tears of the Kingdom grants players the freedom to forge their own path in a world that thrives on their creativity. The game, launched exclusively for the Switch on May 12, offers players an expansive and captivating adventure throughout the land and skies of Hyrule. Serving as a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players will navigate the vast landscapes of Hyrule and explore the mysterious floating islands that grace the skies above. Will you harness the newfound abilities of Link to combat the evil forces that imperil the kingdom?
Tears of the Kingdom introduces various exciting features. Players can traverse to sky islands through multiple means, while new abilities such as Recall allow them to rewind an object's movement. Fuse empowers them to combine items, Ultrahand enables the attachment and detachment of things to craft innovative creations like vehicles, and Ascend lets them leap through ceilings. Additionally, players will encounter a formidable new adversary known as the Construct, and some enemies may wield fused weapons.
Initially slated for release in 2022, the launch of the sequel game was delayed to spring 2023 to allow for extended development time.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available on the Nintendo eShop, the My Nintendo Store, and select retailers, retailing at a suggested price of US$69.99. Alongside the game, Nintendo offers the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and a particular carrying case featuring designs from the game, which are now on sale.
Its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, also achieved critical acclaim. The game received the Game of the Year award at the 35th Golden Joystick Awards ceremony in November 2017, the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2017 in December 2017, and the Game of the Year award at The SXSW Gaming Awards ceremony in March 2018.
