Snowball Earth Manga Confirmed for TV Anime in 2026
Exciting news for sci-fi and manga fans! Yuhiro Tsujitsugu’s manga Snowball Earth is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. The announcement was made on Thursday through the anime’s brand-new official website, which revealed that the series will premiere in 2026 on NTV.

To mark the announcement, the site released a super teaser visual, an announcement video, and special commemorative illustrations. One of the illustrations was drawn by Tsujitsugu himself and posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, while another was revealed exclusively on the anime’s website.
The anime will be directed by Munehisa Sakai, known for hits like Zombie Land Saga, Dance Dance Danseur, and One Piece Film: Strong World. Takeshi Iwata, who has worked on Ajin and The IDOLM@STER Shiny Colors, is on board as assistant director. Series composition and scriptwriting will be handled by Shigeru Murakoshi, who previously worked on Apocalypse Hotel and Zombie Land Saga. Meanwhile, Toshiya Kōno (Chainsaw Man, ’Tis Time for "Torture," Princess) will take on character design and serve as chief animation director. The anime is being produced by TOHO animation, with Studio KAI in charge of animation.
Snowball Earth Overview
The story of Snowball Earth is a unique blend of post-apocalyptic survival and mecha action. It follows Tetsuo Yabusame, a pilot who once battled alien invaders using a giant robot called Yukio. After Earth lost the war, Tetsuo escapes into space in a pod and falls into cold sleep. Eight years later, he crash-lands back on Earth—only to find it frozen and abandoned. Humanity is gone, the world is covered in snow, and Tetsuo must now figure out what happened and how to fulfill a final promise he made to his fallen partner, Yukio.
The manga first began serialization in 2021 in Monthly Spirits, and it’s still ongoing. Shogakukan will release Volume 9 in Japan on July 30, while Viz Media will publish the sixth English volume on August 19.
With a powerful story, gripping mystery, and a talented anime team behind it, Snowball Earth is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most anticipated anime releases.
