Renowned Manga Artist Kia Asamiya Debuts Retro Sci-Fi Manga 'Captain Symphonica'
Manga enthusiasts can rejoice as celebrated manga creator Kia Asamiya recently took to Twitter on December 29 to unveil an exciting development—his upcoming series titled "Captain Symphonica." This latest venture is set to make its debut in Takeshobo's Web Comic Gamma in January, with the magazine traditionally releasing issues on the 10th, 20th, and 30th of each month.
The narrative of "Captain Symphonica" delves into the realm of "retro-future sci-fi action," revolving around the silver-winged spaceship known as "Blitzen." This formidable vessel assumes the noble responsibility of safeguarding the peace of the solar system, employing the powerful sonic star weapon "Symphonica Waffe."
Kia Asamiya, recognized for his prolific contributions to the manga world, recently concluded the Speope! (Space Opera!!) manga with the release of its eighth volume on December 26. This particular series, launched in March 2019 in Young King Ours, has garnered attention for its captivating storyline. Shonengahosha, the publisher, released the sixth volume of Speope! on September 30, contributing to Asamiya's impressive portfolio.
Renowned for creating iconic manga series such as Silent Möbius, Steam Detectives, Compiler, and Junk: Record of the Last Hero, Asamiya's creative prowess extends beyond the realm of manga. Notably, he provided character designs for the Martian Successor Nadesico anime, later adapting it into the Nadesico manga.
His diverse talents also led him to adapt the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace film into a manga, and he wrote and illustrated the Batman: The Child of Dreams comic. Several of Asamiya's manga have successfully transitioned to the anime medium, captivating audiences globally.
Readers in North America have had the opportunity to enjoy Asamiya's works, with Viz Media publishing Silent Möbius and Steam Detectives manga. Nadesico found its way to English audiences through CPM Manga, while DrMaster published Junk: Record of the Last Hero. Adding to the global reach of Asamiya's creations, Manga Planet secured the licensing rights for Silent Möbius in July 2020.
