The Olympic-themed anime Medalist is returning with its second season, and fans have been hyped up! The website of Medalist has officially dropped a new teaser visual, a promotional video, and confirmation for its second season. The teaser unpacks a lot of interesting things, and you can look forward to it!
Medalist Season 2 Teaser and Release
The teaser for Medalist’s season 2 shows our main character back on the ice, setting the stage for another emotional and inspiring season of figure skating. Based on the award-winning manga by Tsurumaikada, Medalist tells you the story of Tsukasa, a former skater whose dreams were shattered, and Inori, the young girl with natural talent but no proper support. Together, they form an unlikely pair with similar dreams - to reach the top of the skating world.
The second season will bring back the original cast with most of the staff from season 1. However, there will be a few changes bts. Hazuki Nakamura, who worked on the 3DCG environment supervisor in Season 1, will now be serving as an art director. Also, Kentaro Kashiwagi, previously the 3DCG composite supervisor, will take over as the new director of photography.
One of the most unique parts of Medalist is its realistic and beautifully animated skating routines. That’s thanks to former Olympic skater Akiko Suzuki, who returns in Season 2 to choreograph the routines. She’ll be collaborating again with former and current figure skaters to bring the action on the ice to life.
Medalist Season 2 will premiere in January 2026 on TV Asahi’s “NUMAnimation” block and 23 other affiliated channels across Japan.
Medalist Season 1
Medalist Season 1 premiered in January 2024 and was streamed on Disney+ for international audiences. It was praised for its emotional story, detailed skating sequences, and strong animation. The anime is based on the manga series published by Kodansha, which began in 2020 and has since gained major recognition. It won the Best General Manga at both the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awards (2023) and the 48th Kodansha Manga Awards (2024).
If you haven’t caught up with Medalist yet, now’s the perfect time to jump in. With its mix of heartfelt drama, sports passion, and beautiful visuals, the second season promises even more intensity as Tsukasa and Inori chase their Olympic dreams.
