Light Novel Sentenced to Be a Hero Get Anime Adaptation

During the live-streamed Dengeki Bunko 30th anniversary event, it was announced that the light novel series "Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004" by Rocket Shokai will be adapted into an anime. Yen Press has obtained the license to publish the English version of the novel series. Here's a summary of the story:

Being a hero is not a privilege but a punishment reserved for the most heinous criminals. Those condemned to this fate are compelled to fight on the front lines against the demon king's army. Even if they die in battle, they are revived and forced to continue fighting. However, when the leader of these condemned heroes, convicted of killing a goddess, encounters another goddess, their agreement may hold the power to reshape the world.

Rocket Shoka initially launched the light novel series on Kadokawa's Kakuyomu site in October 2020. Kadokawa began publishing physical copies of the series in September 2021. Kadokawa published the fourth volume of the series in December 2022.
