Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Premieres in July with Stunning New Kaiju Hyakkei Art!
The highly anticipated Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 is officially set to premiere on July 19, 2025, in Japan, and international fans won’t be left behind. Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream the new season as part of its Summer 2025 simulcast lineup.
Ahead of its return, the anime has revealed the 12th piece in its “Kaiju Hyakkei” art series—a special collection that captures peaceful moments in a world where giant monsters are part of everyday life. This latest illustration features Gen Harumi, dressed in his anti-kaiju uniform, quietly checking his phone beneath the eaves of a traditional Japanese house. In the foreground, soft purple camellias are in bloom, highlighting a calm moment amidst the chaos of a kaiju-filled world.
Kaiju No. 8, originally a science fiction and shonen action manga by Naoya Matsumoto, is serialized digitally by Shueisha on their Shonen Jump+ platform. VIZ Media publishes the English version for fans outside Japan.
The anime is produced by the renowned studio Production I.G. Season 2 brings back an impressive staff lineup: Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya serve as directors, Ichiro Okouchi is in charge of series composition, and Tetsuya Nishio returns as the chief animation director and character designer. Mahiro Maeda designs the kaiju, Shinji Kimura handles the art direction, and Yuta Bandoh provides the soundtrack.
Kaiju No. 8 Overview
For those unfamiliar, Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old man who dreams of joining the Defense Force to fight monstrous kaiju and protect humanity. After a small kaiju enters his body, Kafka gains the ability to transform into a powerful kaiju himself. With newfound strength, he sets out to fulfill a childhood promise to fight alongside his friend Mina Ashiro and protect the world.
As excitement builds for Season 2, fans can enjoy the growing “Kaiju Hyakkei” collection that adds a unique slice-of-life element to the action-packed series. And with Crunchyroll streaming the anime globally, fans won’t have to wait long to rejoin Kafka and the Defense Force on their next big mission.
