Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Resumes One Week Later Than Scheduled!
Gege Akutami's highly acclaimed manga series, "Jujutsu Kaisen," is experiencing a prolonged hiatus, with its return postponed from July 1 to July 8, as announced by Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Originally slated for a two-week break due to Akutami's health concerns, the hiatus has now been extended to three weeks to allow the mangaka more time to recover.
The manga's hiatus was first disclosed on June 10, citing Akutami's poor health and a mysterious condition affecting his ability to work. Despite some improvement in his health, Akutami and the editorial team concluded that he wasn't yet fit to resume manga production, prompting the extended hiatus.
Jujutsu Kaisen History
"Jujutsu Kaisen" debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018, swiftly gaining popularity for its compelling storyline and dynamic artwork. Akutami hinted in December that the manga might conclude this year, adding anticipation and speculation among fans about the series' future developments.
In the realm of international publishing, Viz Media has been pivotal in bringing "Jujutsu Kaisen" to English-speaking audiences. Initially introduced through Viz's Jump Start initiative, the manga's popularity led to continued digital releases via Viz's Shonen Jump platform and simultaneous English releases with Japan. Additionally, Shueisha's MANGA Plus service offers digital publication of manga globally, enhancing its accessibility and reach.
Manga Success
The manga's success also translated into animated adaptations. The first season of the "Jujutsu Kaisen" anime aired in October 2020, consisting of 24 episodes that captivated audiences with its supernatural themes and intense action sequences. Following its success, the "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" anime film premiered in Japan in December 2021, and later internationally in March 2022 with both subtitled and dubbed versions. The franchise's momentum continued with a second season of the TV anime debuting in July 2023, further cementing its popularity and setting the stage for an upcoming sequel.
As fans eagerly await Akutami's recovery and the manga's return, the extended hiatus underscores the importance of prioritizing the health and well-being of mangaka while ensuring the continuation of a beloved series that has left an indelible mark on both manga readers and anime enthusiasts worldwide.
