Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga to Receive Novel Adaptation
Shogakukan is set to release a novel adaptation titled Shōsetsu Sōsō no Frieren Zensō (Novel: Sōsō no Frieren Prelude) on April 17. Mei Hachimoku, known for works like "The Mimosa Confessions" and "The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbye," is penning this exciting prequel.
But what's it all about? Well, this novel delves into the backstory of beloved characters like Frieren, Fern, Stark, Lawine, Kanne, and Aura. Set before Frieren embarks on her journey to "get to know people," the novel features five short stories not found in the manga.
The ongoing manga, created by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, started serialization in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine back in April 2020. After a hiatus, it returned in March 2023. Currently, the manga has 13 volumes, with the latest release alongside the novel.
The manga's popularity knows no bounds. With over 17 million copies in circulation, it's bagged prestigious awards like the New Creator Prize at the 25th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and the 14th Manga Taisho Award. Plus, it's been nominated for other notable awards, including the Kodansha Manga Awards.
If you're more into anime, you're in luck! The Frieren anime premiered with a two-hour special on September 29, breaking new ground as the first television anime to debut in NTV's "Kinyō Roadshow." Subsequent episodes aired in NTV's "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT" timeslot, with Crunchyroll streaming both subbed and dubbed versions.
The latest arc, the "First Class Mage Exam," kicked off in January, signaling the start of the second cour. So, whether you're a manga aficionado or an anime enthusiast, there's plenty of Frieren content to keep you entertained!
