Fate/Apocrypha Manga Finally Comes to an End!
The Fate/Apocrypha manga, based on the series by Type-Moon and Yuichiro Higashide, will be wrapping up in the next issue of Kadokawa's Comp Ace magazine. It's been illustrated by Akira Ishida and adapted from Higashide's original story.
The manga adaptation started back in June 2016 and has since released 15 compiled volumes, with the latest one coming out in October. Ishida, known for works like MAOYU - Archenemy and Hero, has been the artist behind this adaptation.
The Fate/Apocrypha series originally began as a short story by Higashide in Type-Moon Ace magazine in 2011, with illustrations by Ototsugu Konoe. It concluded after four volumes in 2014.
The anime adaptation premiered in July 2017 in Japan and on Netflix, totaling 25 episodes plus one recap episode. The first half of the series debuted on Netflix in the US and Canada in November 2017 and later in other territories. The second half followed in the US in February 2018.
Higashide, aside from being the original creator of Fate/Apocrypha, has also worked on scripts for anime like Tokunana and Special 7: Special Crime Investigation Unit. Additionally, he authored the Date A Live Fragment: Date A Bullet light novel, which was adapted into two movies in 2020.
Plot
In Fate/Apocrypha, the story unfolds in a different timeline than Fate/stay night. Here, during the Third Holy Grail War, which occurred in the midst of the Second World War, a man named Darnic Prestone Yggdmillennia decides to seize control of the powerful artifact known as the Greater Grail for the Third Reich, the ruling power of Germany at the time.
However, Darnic pulls off a double-cross, betraying the Nazis and instead smuggling the Greater Grail for himself. He relocates it to Romania, a country in Eastern Europe. This act marks a significant shift in power dynamics, as Darnic aims to use the Grail's immense power for his own purposes rather than letting it remain under Nazi control. This sets the stage for the events that follow in Fate/Apocrypha, where various factions and individuals vie for control of the Greater Grail and the wish-granting power it possesses.
