Dragon Ball Super Delivers Disappointing Update for Fans This Summer!
Dragon Ball Super fans hoping for a big comeback this summer will have to wait a little longer. Since the heartbreaking passing of Akira Toriyama earlier this year, the beloved series has been on hold. Sadly, that break isn’t ending anytime soon.
No New Chapters for June or July
The manga officially went on hiatus in Spring 2023, and fans have been waiting patiently for any updates. Now, it’s been confirmed that there won’t be a new chapter in June—and possibly not in July either. This news comes despite a big reason to celebrate: the 10th anniversary of Dragon Ball Super’s manga debut in V-Jump magazine.
Shueisha will mark the anniversary with some exciting extras, like a special illustration and fresh artwork for the Dragon Ball Legends mobile game. But, despite these fun add-ons, there’s no sign of a new manga chapter in sight. So, even with the celebrations, fans are left without new story content.
Earlier this year, fans got a short burst of excitement when a new one-shot chapter focusing on Trunks and Goten was released. This story showed their adventures before the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. What made it extra special? It was one of the last stories that Toriyama had left behind for artist Toyotaro. Though it wasn’t part of the original prequel arc, it was turned into a touching one-shot tribute to the late creator.
What’s Next for Dragon Ball Super?
While the series is on pause, the future isn’t completely uncertain. Toyotaro has mentioned several times that he still wants to continue the story. There’s also more story left to tell, especially with the mystery surrounding Black Frieza from the Granolah the Survivor arc.
Even the anime team seems hopeful. Voice actor Christopher R. Sabat has talked about what Ultra Ego Vegeta might sound like if the anime returns, showing that the excitement is still alive behind the scenes.
For now, though, fans will need to be patient. Dragon Ball Super isn’t gone forever—it’s just figuring out its next step. With such a strong legacy and a passionate fanbase, a proper return is likely. It’s just going to take a little more time.
