A new anime film called "BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi-" just hit theaters in Japan, and it's already making waves! In its first three days, the film sold 337,000 tickets and earned a whopping 463 million yen (that's about US$2.99 million). Plus, it ranked second in the Japanese box office, which is a big deal!
This film is actually a spinoff of a popular soccer manga called "Blue Lock." It focuses on a character named Seishirō Nagi before he joins the main Blue Lock program. And here's a fun fact: there will be four mini-anime episodes called "BLUELOCK Additional Time!" after the credits every week for the first month of the film's screening. So, fans have even more to look forward to!
The film has some familiar faces behind it, including the same cast and staff as the TV anime. It's directed by Shunsuke Ishikawa, with Taku Kishimoto overseeing the scripts and Muneyuki Kaneshiro, the original manga creator, supervising the story. And let's not forget about the music composed by Jun Murayama!
The theme song "Stormy" is performed by Nissy and SKY-HI. Nissy, also known as Takahiro Nishijima, is part of the group AAA, while SKY-HI, or Mitsuhiro Hidaka, is also in the band. Together, they bring their talents to the film's soundtrack.
For fans outside of Japan, don't worry! Crunchyroll will be screening the film in North America on June 28, both with English subtitles and an English dub.
And if you're interested in diving deeper into the Blue Lock world, Kodansha USA Publishing has you covered. They'll be releasing the spinoff manga in print starting in fall 2024. Plus, they're already releasing the original Blue Lock manga in English, digitally and in print.
In case you're unfamiliar with Blue Lock, it's all about Japan's quest to create a soccer superstar after a tough defeat. They gather 300 of the country's best young players to train at the Blue Lock facility, aiming to find the ultimate striker who can lead Japan to victory.
