Blue Box Manga Takes a Short Break Starting June 2!
Fans of Blue Box (Ao no Hako) will have to wait a little longer for the next chapter. On Monday, the series' official X (formerly Twitter) account announced that the manga will take a one-issue break in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. This means there will be no new chapter in Issue #27, set to release on June 2. The manga will resume with Issue #28 on June 9.
This kind of short break is not uncommon for manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, especially for maintaining the health and well-being of the creator or due to production schedules.
Where You Can Read Blue Box
For English-speaking readers, the manga is available on multiple platforms:
Shueisha's MANGA Plus service publishes the chapters digitally and for free.
Viz Media also releases the manga digitally and in print, with volumes available for purchase.
A Quick Look Back: From One-Shot to Hit Series
Blue Box started as a one-shot by Kōji Miura in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2020. Due to its popularity, the manga was greenlit for serialization, officially beginning its run in April 2021. Since then, it has become one of the magazine’s standout romance-sports hybrids.
Shueisha is set to release the 21st compiled volume of the series on July 4, continuing its steady release of tankōbon (volume collections).
The Anime Adaptation and Season 2 Announcement
The manga’s growing popularity led to an anime adaptation that premiered in Japan on October 3, 2024, followed by a Netflix Japan debut on October 4. The first season aired across two consecutive cours (about 6 months in total), capturing the heartfelt dynamic between badminton player Taiki Inomata and basketball star Chinatsu Kano.
Following the success of the first season, a second season has officially been confirmed, though release details are still under wraps.
