Black Lagoon Returns With a Bang After 7-Month Hiatus!
After a seven-month break, the popular action-packed manga is finally making a return. Shogakukan’s Sunday GX magazine announced that Black Lagoon will be back with a brand-new chapter in its upcoming issue on July 18, 2025.
Not only that, but the manga will also be featured on the cover of the magazine and will include a special color opening page—a treat for longtime readers. This new chapter will be the first one since December 2024, following earlier chapters released in May and August 2024. As fans know, Black Lagoon has had a history of breaks and comebacks, so every new chapter feels like a celebration.
About Black Lagoon
Black Lagoon is written and illustrated by Rei Hiroe, who began the manga in 2002 in Monthly Sunday GX. The story follows Rokuro “Rock” Okajima, a regular Japanese businessman who ends up joining a group of mercenaries known as the Lagoon Company. Alongside the fierce and unforgettable Revy, Rock dives deep into the dangerous world of pirates, smugglers, and gangsters across Southeast Asia.
The manga is known for its high-stakes gunfights, morally grey characters, and intense storytelling. Shogakukan released the 13th volume in December 2023, and Viz Media also released the English version for North American readers shortly after.
Since 2010, Black Lagoon has often gone on hiatus but continues to maintain a strong fanbase that eagerly waits for each new chapter.
Spinoffs and Anime Adaptations
The Black Lagoon universe has expanded over the years. Two spinoff mangas have been launched:
Black Lagoon: Sawyer the Cleaner, a gory side story about a chainsaw-wielding cleaner, started in 2019.
Black Lagoon: Eda - Initial Stage, focused on the mysterious nun Eda, began in 2022.
In addition, the manga was adapted into two anime series by Madhouse in 2006, along with the Roberta’s Blood Trail OVA in 2010. These shows helped bring even more attention to the franchise.
Rei Hiroe's Other Work
Hiroe is also known for creating the original anime series Re:CREATORS in 2017 and another manga called 341 Sentōdan, launched in 2019.
With the return of Black Lagoon just around the corner, fans can gear up for more explosive action and deep storytelling starting this July!
